1. Intro

The startOmatic is for starting Sail Boat Races.

It has two ways of doing time:

2.Modes

  1. 5R - Mode one - 5 4 1 G0 REPEAT - this will start a five minute countdown, blowing a horn at 5 minutes four minutes one minute and zero. It will then return to five minutes and countdown again until its stopped.
  2. 5U - Mode two - 5 4 1 G0 then count up (stopwatch) - this will start a five minute countdown, blowing a horn at 5 minutes four minutes one minute and zero. It will then begin to count up as a stopwatch for the race.
  3. 3R -Mode three - 3 2 1 G0 REPEAT - this will start a five minute countdown, blowing a horn at 5 minutes four minutes one minute and zero. It will then return to three minutes and countdown again until its stopped.
  4. 3U - Mode four - 3 2 1 G0 then count up (stopwatch) - this will start a three minute countdown, blowing a horn at 5 minutes four minutes one minute and zero. It will then begin to count up as a stopwatch for the race.
  5. SC - Mode five - STERNCHASER this Displays the Time of Day from GPS time signal for Pursuit Races also know as Stern Chasers
  6. E7 - Mode six - Elliot Race Timer, this is to maintain compatibility with a mates Elliot Race Timer system.

3.Switches

Left to right as viewed from Rear.

The Left 4 Switches configure the startOmatic, the right most Switch is a spare Most of the switches require a long press and release to do anything - this is to prevent accidental triggering (designed with rescue boats, A Cats and a Shaw 650s in mind)

(Tapping this button during a race sends a finish message - this is a future feature to trigger a camera.)

4. LCD

The LCD is on for race officers to read, either on on the back of the main display or on the remote, the layout is slightly different between units:

The first mode digit is the Local Mode is the mode the Controller is in the the second is the mode the main DISPALY is in. There's a 2 way communication between the controller and display this allow them to stay is sync and for you tell if the other end is working without line of sight.

5. Sunday Races (541GO REPEAT)

Most likely you want mode 1 which is default. About 2 seconds before you wan to start the sequence press and hold the START button for 2 seconds and release to start the timer

Once the start sequence is finished or you have to abort press and hold the RESET button for 2 seconds then release

5. Sprint Races (321GO REPEAT)

Most likely you want mode 3 push and hold Mode Button for two seconds and release, then repeat. The LCD indicate mode 3-3R

About 2 seconds before you wan to start the sequence press and hold the START button for 2 seconds and release to start the timer.

Once the start sequence is finished or you have to abort press and hold the RESET button for 2 seconds then release

6. Stern Chaser (Pursuit Race)

Most likely you want mode 3 push and hold Mode Button for two seconds and release, then repeat 3 more times till the the LCD indicate mode 5-SC

There's nothing else to do in this mode - it just displays the time of Day from the GPS time signal.

7.Tuesday Elliot Remote

This has NOT been tested at time of writing. Nor has Tom built his own remote to maybe work the the Elliot Race Timer system written by a mate. This mode is not for you.

8.Finishing

This feature is NOT implemented yet. The plan is to remote trigger a camera that is pointed down the finish line and time stamp it. Tapping the Start Button will send a finish.
