Ok so the NT has exactly three types on non cabin keel boats the Darwin Sailing Club's Elliott Sevens an apparently Gove is buying 4 Fareast 19s, well probably the Government is. Oh and I own a Shaw 650 more of a sports boat really.
I was looking up the Fareast 19s and need to compare so I did. Most of the numbers will be obvious HIKE PRINCESSES has been cleared up but its the weight of the crew * distance from the certreline + 30cm - the 30 cm is for hiking like mad. The Fareast 19 doesn't have toe straps and has a guard rail so i knocked off the 30m cm for them. 87kg is apparenlty the average Ausse's weight. I wish I was that skinny.
PTW power to weight - sail area / displacement I multiplied by 100 for readability
FLAT is righting moment to sail area. The Shaw is usually sailed flat Elliots not so much.
Up = upwind (white sail) Down + Spinnaker
Is this accurate? Who knows? Numbers come off the primary website. My Shaw probably doesn't displace 637kg less i would say. Even with safety gear an anchor that sounds high. Looking at the size construction and bulb on an Elliott I can believe its 850 I'm certain its way more than 30% more than the Shaw. The advert for the The Stigs Audi Driving Cousin the best of the Shaw 650s quotes "a total displacement of approximately 355kg including 125kg in the keel/bulb." I doubt I'm that light but if you rerun the PWR on 450Kg then those Shaw Numbers kick up to 5.84/16.96.
My old "optimized for handicap kite" I have measurements for calculates as 45sqm the new one is larger. so that sounds about right. The rig on an E7 is a lot taller than the Shaw so I'll accept the 45 for its kite.
Hike Princesses! (no this is not a Fareast or an Elliot - and I weigh more than 87kg.
